Alabama Couple Allegedly Skipped Out on Rent, Then New Tenants Found Their Son's Body in a Freezer, Cops Say

Karen and Michael Halstead were arrested 60 miles from where their son's body was found, officials said.

A couple in Alabama has been arrested after their son’s body was found in a freezer outside their former home, RadarOnline.com has learned.
On Oct. 29, officers responded to the house in Henry County regarding a call that came in about a dead body, as Front Page Detectives reported.

Jones told police that Willett was out on hunting when they arrived on scene, but they determined later he was in a wheelchair and couldn't do that.

Police were called to the home to perform a welfare check by a concerned family member.
Investigators determined the deceased teenager’s parents, 44-year-old Michael Halstead and 43-year-old Karen Halstead, previously lived at the home, but left after they allegedly skipped out on their rent.
The new tenants found the body while cleaning up the property, according to WDHN.

The victim's mother was found and arrested at a shopping center nearby, police said.
Henry County Sheriff Eric Blankenship told the station that the body possibly had been in the freezer since August.

The mother was arrested and booked into jail, charged with the murder of her daughter.

The pair was charged with abuse of a corpse and they were being held without bond, officials said.
Autopsy results are pending, and authorities said the couple could possibly face murder charges depending on the outcome.
